enjoy in the Japanese way

Q: What is so special about Japanese Food?

Japanese style cuisine is amongst the healthiest on the planet and it is also widely recognised that the preparation and cooking involved is one of the most intricate, eye-catching and impressive processes in the food world. MoonSha has brought the best of the Japanese flavour to Derby.

Q: Is Japanese food all about Sushi and raw fish (Sashimi)?

In a word no. Many traditional Japanese dishes are served hot and thus, so are most of our starters and all of our main meals. In fact the teppanyaki grills at Moonsha offer the hottest meal in Derby, cooking at temperatures in excess of 400 degrees centigrade!

Q: What is teppanyaki?

Teppanyaki (鉄板焼き, teppan'yaki?) is a style of Japanese cuisine that uses an iron griddle to cook food. The word teppanyaki is derived from teppan (鉄板), which means iron plate, and yaki (焼き), which means grilled, boiled or pan-fried.

Q: How does MoonSha Teppanyaki work?

Customers are free to choose between our Teppanyaki a la carte and our popular Teppanyaki Set Meals. For anybody to whom these options do not appeal we also offer a broad selection of Japanese dishes which are not prepared on the Teppanyaki Grill.

We would highly recommend that guests ordering Teppanyaki eat their meal seated at our our Teppanyaki bar, as this is the best place from which to watch our skilful and flamboyant chefs at work.

Q: What is so special about MoonSha Teppanyaki?

We have two teppanyaki bars which seat over 50 teppan guests. Reservation is highly recommended as teppanyaki has enjoyed a fantastic reception in Derbyshire.

Q: What drinks would you recommend with my Japanese meal?

Asahi is the best drink that would go with majority of the food. It is so crisp, light and remarkably tasty! After all it is Japan’s No. 1 beer!

Sake (Hakkisan), Japanese rice wine, would be good with most of the meal as well. It can be served chilled or warm.
